Terms and conditions 2022-2025

To receive a rebate applicants must:

  • Be the owner of the property or a renter with the owner’s written consent and agreement that the installation to be carried out on the property will remain in place for at least five years.
  • Submit final rebate applications before 13 June 2025.
  • Rebate availability is funding dependent and hence not guaranteed.

Rebates are available for installation of rainwater tanks and/or their connections which are carried out after 1 July 2023 and in accordance to relevant legislations (SEPP- Exempt and Compliant Development Codes 2008 - Subdivision 32 and 33), standards and Council requirements (Part 24 of Ku-ring-gai Council DCP(PDF, 1MB)).

Each household is eligible to claim up to $1,000 of Water Smart rebates only. This amount includes Water Smart rebates claimed in the last five years.

The following rebates will be disbursed against invoices capped at $1,000.

  Rebate amount against invoices 
Rainwater tank of 3000 litre and above capacity (rebate amounts for smaller tanks with minimum capacity of 1000 litres will be determined pro-rata).  $500 
Plumbed connections between rainwater tank and household uses (eg. washing machine, toilet cisterns, hot water tank and garden irrigation system). A tap on the tank connected to a hose is not classified as a connection - it needs to be something permanently plumbed. $250/each (up to two connections) 

Application

To be eligible for a rebate, the applicant must complete a Water Smart rebate application form and attach copies of receipt/s. The receipt/s must be in the applicant’s name.

BASIX or Development Application (DA) requirement

Installations required to satisfy a BASIX or DA commitment will not be eligible for a rebate.

Research

For the first five (5) years following installation, rebate recipients may be asked to participate in Council research about water efficiency and rainwater tanks. Participation is not compulsory.

Refund of rebate

Applicants will be required to repay the rebate if any of these terms and conditions is found to have been breached in the first five (5) years after the rebate was received.

Program changes

Council reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion and at any time, to change any or all of the terms and conditions of the rebate program or to cancel the rebate program prior to 13 June 2025. Applications must be received by Council prior to any published termination date for the rebate program unless funding is available for it to be extended.

Liability

The applicant acknowledges and agrees that as far as the law permits, Council accepts no liability in respect to any claim, cause of action or loss or damage arising out of, or in relation to, any raingarden or system that is the subject of funding assistance. The applicant agrees that they will indemnify and keep indemnified Council from any claim or liability arising out of, or in relation to, raingarden system that is the subject of this application to the extent that any claim or liability is not caused by Council’s negligence or breach of this application or any other term implied by law.

Payment

Payment of approved rebates will be made by electronic funds transfer to the property owner or applicant as identified in the Application Form.

Privacy notice
