The Eco Festival is on during September

The Council will host the Festival between 1 and 30 September, designed to help families live cheaper and greener.
The Eco Festival is aimed at Ku-ring-gai residents eager to find new ways to live more sustainably. As well as fun-filled activities for children, the Festival will feature workshops, talks, market stalls and the chance to chat with other residents who’ve changed their lifestyles to save money and the environment.
A festival highlight is the Sustainable Futures Day on Saturday 30 September at St Ives Village Green, jointly hosted by Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby Councils. The event offers an electric vehicle display, stalls and speakers discussing solar, upcycling and info on community rebates and switching to green energy. You can also grab a free pedal-powered smoothie and native plant.
Residents attending the Sustainable Futures Day can go into the draw to win a $1500 voucher towards a sustainable lifestyle.
Other Festival highlights include:
- A spring seedling sale at Turramurra Community Garden
- Children’s activities at the Wildflower Garden in St Ives
- The Sculpture Trail also at the Garden, featuring over 30 artworks made from recyclables
- A kids clothing swap meet
- A waste free cooking demonstration
- A crop swap at the Wildflower Garden exchanging edible produce and seedlings
- A free screening of the classic movie Whale Rider
- A plant identification workshop
During the Eco Festival the fresh and organic produce market will be on at St Ives Showground every Saturday between 8am and 2pm.
Mayor Jeff Pettett said the Eco Festival was designed to get people thinking about their impact on the environment.
“The message of the Festival that we can all play a part in living more sustainably and save money while doing it,” he said.
