EV charging coming to a kerb near you
Published on 09 July 2025
Ku-ring-gai will receive 25 new kerbside electric vehicle charge points to help make the switch to electric vehicles easier.
The NSW Government today announced $2.8 million in EV Kerbside Charging Grants to install chargers across 22 local government areas, including Ku-ring-gai.
Mayor Christine Kay welcomed the announcement, saying the switch to electric transport is a key component of Ku-ring-gai’s plan to reach net zero.
“Electric vehicles offer reduced fuel costs, lower maintenance costs, reduced air pollution and an improved driving experience,” Mayor Kay said.
“Despite the increase in EV ownership, it is estimated that 1 in 3 drivers across NSW do not have access to off-street parking to charge their vehicle.
“Our Council continues to invest in public EV charge points and also partners with other charge point operators to ensure everyone in our community who wants to make the switch to electric can have the right infrastructure to support them.”
Ku-ring-gai has one of the highest rates of EV adoption in NSW. The number of EVs increased by 150% in Ku-ring-gai from June 2023 to June 2025.
In June 2025, EV registrations in Ku-ring-gai accounted for 5.1% of all registered vehicles – more than three times the state average of 1.6%.
CSIRO projects that there could be up to 21,404 EVs in Ku-ring-gai by 2030.
Ku-ring-gai Council has previously installed public EV chargers at Ku-ring-gai Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Turramurra Library, North Turramurra Recreation Area and Lindfield Village Green.
Construction for four fast charging ports will begin next week in Turramurra by a private operator who received funding in a previous round of the grants program. Council is also currently working with the operator to install additional chargers in East Killara, Roseville and Wahroonga.
