Send in your best suggestions to lead a plastic-free life and go in the draw to win!

Plastic Free July is a global initiative aimed at reducing dependence on single use plastic. The idea is for people to find ways to cut their use of plastic for a whole month and ultimately make it a lifetime goal.

Ku-ring-gai Council is getting behind Plastic Free July by asking residents to come up with their most creative ways of reducing plastic. Every entry has the chance to win one of two sustainable prize packs valued at $150 each.

Each prize pack contains:

•           A sustainable household cleaning kit with essential oils

•           A reusable canvas bulk food shopping bag

•           A bamboo cutlery set

•           A linen tea towel featuring pollinator plants.

To enter visit the Facebook page Loving Living Ku-ring-gai and leave a photo or comment under any Plastic Free July competition post, sharing your plastic-free solution.

All comments will be added to the draw and winners announced in the first week of August. Visit krg.nsw.gov.au/plasticfreejuly to find out more and read the terms and conditions.

Residents are also invited to an online discussion on ways to achieve net zero emissions in Ku-ring-gai. The Net Zero Action Collective group is one of three volunteer groups looking at programs and events to encourage local uptake of renewables and electrifying homes and transport.

The online discussion will take place between 6.30pm and 8pm on Thursday 27 July. Go to krg.nsw.gov.au/whatson to register.

Mayor Jeff Pettett said there was a renewed interest by residents in leading a more sustainable life following the launch of the Council’s Net Zero website at netzero.krg.nsw.gov.au

“The website gives you info about community rebates and how to reduce your energy, waste and transport costs with lots of useful tips,” he said.
